I'll Be John Brown was formed in a living room in Manhattan's East Village in February of 2005. Cultivated on a mutual love of 1970s Outlaw-Country and Pabst Blue Ribbon, the trio quickly accelerated from casual jam project to aggressively gigging band in a very short time. Balancing a mix of tightly written original songs and jammy interpretations of Country standards, they incorporate elements ranging from Acuff-Rose and Sun to Outlaw and Alt in a lively, concise package. Consisting of Jason Holt, on bass, banjo, mandolin and backing vocals, Alistair Wallace on 12-string and 6-string electric, 6-string slide and backing vocals, and Jason Gambrell on acoustic, harmonica and lead vocals, I'll Be John Brown has an impressive and eclectic pedigree. All three have been musical fixtures in New York City for nearly a decade. Currently, Wallace wears a slightly different hat as guitarist in the hard-edged indie band Satirious Johnson. Gambrell is one half of the studio project The Croup and was the drummer in the power-metal duo Flat Black. Holt, meanwhile, is a master musician who has been down virtually every musical avenue over the years, from hip-hop to jazz and techno, before rediscovering his earthy roots in I'll Be John Brown.
